My visit to Guadalajara, Mexico was amazing!

Traveling with my instructor and a big group of professional
photographers was a great experience. I learned loads of new
information from them and the workshop was just amazing.

I am just completing an amazing week in Guadalajara., Mexico participating in a photographic workshop. Along with 17 other photographers we traveled through various parts of the city as well as several towns making images, exploring Mexico, in a very personal way.

This week was all about challenges, pushing myself creatively and personally. It was not about making “trophies” to take back home, but making a body of work that tells a story, a story of my brief but intense experience in Mexico. I really wanted to connect in a personal way with this place and in a way I have. I don’t claim to “know” it, but I feel I have familiarized myself with the small details of this country that make it what it is.

In some ways I feel like a child exploring a new space, but my images help more to interpret what I have seen with mature eyes. I have caught glimpses of the beauty and complexity and contradictions that are Mexico and I am hungry to explore more.

It’s easy to say that one week is too short and a lifetime is not enough. I look forward to coming back and discovering more about this place and myself.

Escribo porque quiero contar sobre estos ulitmos siete dias que he pasado cerca de nuevos amigos que han venido a Guadalajara para practicipar en un curso sobre Narrativa Visual (fotografía) que impartieron personas que pertenecen al movimiento llamado Black Boot Ink inegrado por fotografos que comparten las mismas inquietudes.

Quiero platicarles tambien que aunque no participé inscrito en el curso sino como personal de apoyo, esta ha sido una experiencia muy enriquecedora, he aprendido mucho sobre tomar fotografias a la gente, aunque no me considero fotografo en esta semana he confirmado y ha crecido mi gusto por la fotografía y he logrado comprender porque la fotografía es un arte.

Tambien ademas de todo ello he conocido a personas muy interestantes. Ha sido una oportunidad de convivir con gente de otros lugares, practicar un poco mi pésimo ingles y entender más sobre gente de otros lados.

Entre esas nuevas personas que vienen de San Francisco y otros lugares se encuentra Emilio Bañuelos y Elena Carrasco dos personas muy valiosas y generosas en su manera de ser y a quienes ya considero mis amigos. Son de esa gente que te gustaria tener por amigos.

A partir de hoy he tomado la desición de tomar la camara para continuar tomando fotos pero ahora de una manera mas conciente sobre lo que quiero obtener a oprimir el obturador.

Ademas del gusto por tomar fotos, mi placer al hacerlo es mas completo porque ahora mi afición ha cobrado mayor sentido.

Me despido diciendoles que si tienen la oportunidad, participen en eventos como este.

Guadalajara was fantastic!

The city is beautiful and full of warm people. I also got to go to surrounding cities to get a couple of different tastes of the area.

The week was intense with a class in the morning and shooting the rest of the day until dinner. Having the full day be about photography was great. I woke up in the morning with nothing but photography and went to sleep after a full day focused on making images.

The stay was very comfortable and we stayed in a beautiful old house turned hostel. Everyone in the group offered something different to the experience. Getting to see 18 photographers interpret the same place with a camera was amazing! Such different perspectives!

I’m very excited to get back so I can begin working on these images to put on my website and in my portfolio, at the same time I could stay here for months exploring more in depth the things I’ve been seeing.

Es para agradecer el aprendizaje colectivo. En especial el clima de crecimiento mutuo yuxtapuesto a las competencias en los juegos olímpicos. El taller de todos crecemos al lado de la carrera donde no importa si crezco sólo llegar antes que el otro.

Fue increible para mi haber participado en el taller, estoy seguro que gracias a esto he crecido como fotografo y como persona; nunca dude que sería un buen taller con interesantes visiones y aprendizaje, pero no imagine que siendo un grupo conformado por personas de distintos origenes e ideas pudieramos lograr una union tan calida, solida y amigable, esto para mi demuestra que hay cosas que trasienden cualquier limitante, ya sea el idioma, el origen, raza o lo que sea, mas haya de todo, somos parte integra de una colectividad trasendetal que nos revasa a nosotros mismos pues simboliza parte de todo el mundo y de alguna manera los aspectos mas importantes de la humanidad; o por lo menos eso me hicieron pensar, por eso ahora creo que el taller tiene mas que solo un intercambio de aprendizaje, también tiene un espiritu humano esencial para el arte y la foto.

Espero volver a verlos y gracias por permitime formar parte de esto, lo agradesco profundamente.

Ahora somo algo así como el Black Boots Team¡¡¡¡
