Course Description

Working in collaboration with La Caja Mágica Radio, the University of Guadalajara’s Casa Escorza, and the Noda Rickard Center for Photographic Arts and Southern Exposure the emphasis of the IAC 2008 is on making images that show relationships between people and their environment. Our goal is to work with a sincere, unobtrusive, natural approach to portray our subjects as individuals rather than generic types – combining people, place, time and chance to make compelling, story-telling images.
Each day is divided between morning classroom instruction, informal discussions, private and group critiques and fieldwork. We will be working in downtown Guadalajara, visiting the Basilica of Our Lady of Zapopan and Tlaquepaque, Jalisco. Workshop sessions are designed for practical use with work sessions focused on developing your personal vision, and editing images into a coherent visual narrative.
The seven-day workshop culminates with exhibitions at Casa Escorza in Guadalajara, Mexico The Rostel Gallery in Dunsmuir, CA, Empire Seven Studios in San Jose, CA, Studio 17 in Oakland, CA, The Ranch in San Francisco, CA and with Pacific Art Collective, a publication of the final images and publication in blackbootsink.com.
