<p>Each day is divided between classroom instruction, discussions, personal and group critiques, and fieldwork. Discussion includes ethics and responsibilities, light and composition, and equipment choices. Participants should be prepared to work in digital format. Enrollment is open to amateur and professional photographers.</p>
<p><!--  *************    presenter bio  ************ --><strong>Emilio Bañuelos</strong> has worked as an editorial photographer and consultant for newspapers in Mexico, Panama and the US. His documentary work earned him fellowships from the Poynter Institute, the Marty Forscher Fellowship for Humanistic Photography and an award from EnFoco Inc. In the San Francisco bay area, Emilio teaches documentary photography for the Academy of Art University, and has conducted workshops for the University of California Santa Cruz-Extension and the University of Coahuila and internationally as the co-founder of Black Boots Ink. www.embafoto.com</p>
<p><strong>Elena Carrasco</strong> is the co-founder of Black Boots Ink. Her work has been exhibited throughout Northern California including the San Jose Museum of Art and the Museo Casa Taller Jose Clemente Orozco in Mexico. As an educator, Elena has worked as an instructor and program coordinator for the San Jose Museum of Art and Movimiento de Arte y Cultura Latino Americana and has conducted national and international workshops with Black Boots Ink. www.elenacarrasco.com</p>

<p>The International Artist Collaborative 2010 will be working in <a title="wikipedia" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guadalajara,_Jalisco" target="_blank">Guadalajara</a>, the cultural center of western Mexico, the village of  <a title="wiki" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazamitla" target="_blank">Mazamitla</a>, selected as a <a title="wikipedia" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pueblo_M%C3%A1gico" target="_blank">Pueblo Magico</a> and visiting the country&#8217;s largest fresh water <a title="wikipedia" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Chapala" target="_blank">lake</a> in <a title="wikipedia" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chapala,_Jalisco" target="_blank">Chapala</a>, Jalisco.</p>
<p>Workshop sessions are designed for practical use centering on the work you create and focused on developing your personal vision. The workshop is a unique combination of one-on-one critiques with Emilio Bañuelos and Ibarionex Perello, classroom instruction, group discussions, independent fieldwork and presentations by local photographers specializing in Fashion, Music, Performance, Fine Art, and Publishing.</p>
<p>Many photographers of all levels have participated in this successful, seven-day intensive workshop multiple times. In order to make art accessible and return the images of the public to the public, the International Artist Collaborative culminates with a public art distribution project in Guadalajara&#8217;s <a title="tianguis cultural" href="http://www.myspace.com/tianguisculturalac" target="_blank">Tianguis Cultural</a>, a printed publication, and publication at www.blackbootsink.com.</p>

<p>The  purpose of this workshop series is to help you understand the narrative,  aesthetic, and emotional aspects of photography.</p>

<p>Working in collaboration with La Caja Mágica Radio, the University of Guadalajara&#8217;s <a title="Casa Escorza" href="http://www.cultura.udg.mx/" target="_blank">Casa Escorza</a>, and the <a title="NRCPA" href="http://www.nrcpa.org/" target="_blank">Noda Rickard Center for Photographic Arts</a> and <a title="Southern Exposure" href="http://soex.org/alternativeexposure/" target="_blank">Southern Exposure</a> the emphasis of the IAC 2008 is on making images that show relationships between people and their environment. Our goal is to work with a sincere, unobtrusive, natural approach to portray our subjects as individuals rather than generic types &#8211; combining people, place, time and chance to make compelling, story-telling images.</p>
<p>Each day is divided between morning classroom instruction, informal discussions, private and group critiques and fieldwork.  We will be working in downtown Guadalajara, visiting the Basilica of Our Lady of Zapopan and Tlaquepaque, Jalisco. Workshop sessions are designed for practical use with work sessions focused on developing your personal vision, and editing images into a coherent visual narrative.</p>

<p><strong>Descripción Del Curso</strong><br />
Trabajando en colaboración con La Caja Mágica Radio, la Universidad de Guadalajara-<a title="Casa Escorza" href="http://www.cultura.udg.mx/" target="_blank">Casa Escorza</a>, y el <a title="NRCPA" href="http://www.nrcpa.org/" target="_blank">Noda Rickard Center for Photographic Arts</a>, y <a title="Southern Exposure" href="http://soex.org/alternativeexposure/" target="_blank">Southern Exposure</a> el énfasis del taller Colaboración Internacional de Artistas está en la creación de las imágenes que demuestran relaciones entre la gente y su ambiente. Aprenderá a utilizar su cámara para la fotografía de la gente, y los paisajes mientras que aprende sobre la narrativa visual y edición de fotos. Las sesiones del taller se diseñan para el uso práctico con críticas y instrucción personalizada para tomar fotos diariamente.</p>
<p>Este curso-taller está dirigido a quienes entienden el viaje no como una huída, sino como un modo de conocerse a sí mismo; a quienes creen que a viajar se aprende, como se aprende a leer, a amar, a morir, a fotografiar. El destino, o los recursos que cada uno tiene para alcanzarlo, no es lo importante, lo que cuenta es la disposición, la Mirada de aproximación al otro, al mundo que está fuera de nosotros, da igual su proximidad o lejanía.<img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-110" title="03" src="http://blackbootsink.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/03-225x300.jpg" alt="03" width="158" height="210" /></p>
<p>Los talleres de la mañana tomaran lugar en <a title="Casa Escorza" href="http://www.cultura.udg.mx/" target="_blank">Casa Escorza</a>. Las tardes serán reservadas para visitar las ciudades vecinas de Guadalajara. Viajaremos en autobús para visitar la Basilica de Zapopan, artesanos en Tlaquepaque, donde tendrámos tiempo para tomar fotografías.</p>

<p>In collaboration with the <strong><a href="http://nrcpa.org/NRCPA.html">Noda Rickard Center for Photographic Arts</a></strong> and Earth Day as inspiration, <strong>Workshop No. Two</strong> is designed to help students maximize their understanding of the landscape as a portrait of the place. We will also discuss the visual narrative, editing and presenting your work to galleries.</p>
<p>The resulting images were published in Issue No. Four and exhibited at the Rostel Gallery, in Dunsmuir, CA.</p>

COURSE DESCRIPTION</strong></p>
<p>Black Boots Ink is about the curiosity that makes you walk into a new situation. It is about wandering in the company of strangers, about stopping, walking, working, protesting, progressing&#8211;it is about all of us.</p>

<p>The first Black Boots Ink Workshop takes place in <a href="http://www.visitmexico.com/wb2/Visitmexico/Visi_Guadalajara">Guadalajara</a>, Jalisco, Mexico, with photographer <a href="http://www.embafoto.com/">Emilio Bañuelos</a>. The seven-day workshop culminates with a public exhibition of the final images and a selection of the images will be considered for publication in blackbootsink.com.</p>
<p><strong>Workshop Mexico</strong>, participants will have the opportunity to make images that show relationships between people and their environment.You will learn to photograph people and landscapes while creating a visual narrative. Workshop sessions are designed for practical use with instruction for daily shooting, personalized working critiques and editing.</p>
<p>Morning workshops will be held at <em>Instituto Cultural Cabañas</em> a cultural center designed by Manuel Tolsá in 1810. The Instituto&#8217;s106 rooms and 23 flower-filled patios house art exhibitions and the main chapel displays 57 murals by José Clemente Orozco from1938-39, including The Man of Fire.</p>

<p>Afternoons will be set aside for daily trips to visit Guadalajara’s neighboring towns. We will travel by bus to visit the Basilica de <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zapopan">Zapopan</a>, which dates back to 1730, the Zona Rosa, and the village of Tapalpa, Jalisco, where you will have time to make photographs and learn about contemporary Mexico.</p>
